In the Book of Matthew, Jesus exhorts his disciples to “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” In Brother Prathip Martin Komolmas, Christ’s Gospel finds an exemplar whose devotion to pastoral care and lifelong commitment to education have quietly inspired others to higher purpose. As Rector of Assumption University, he has provided vision and leadership to an institution that has become one of the foremost Catholic universities in Asia.

Loyola University in Maryland is privileged to have enjoyed a ten-year partnership with Assumption University. It is a partnership that has afforded several hundred Loyola students with the opportunity to live and study in Bangkok, broadening their knowledge while promoting understanding and respect by Thai and American citizens alike.

President of the Supreme Committee of the Pontifical Missionary Societies (the Propagation of the Faith, Saint Peter the Apostle, Missionary Childhood and Missionary Union)

On this, the centennial anniversary of the founding of the Brothers of St. Gabriel in Thailand, we salute Brother Martin for his continuing commitment to a relationship that is advancing Christ’s call for peace and justice in our world.

For his inspiring example of leadership, for his devotion to Assumption University and the educational ideals which it embodies and for his continuing commitment to Asian and American collaboration, Loyola University in Maryland is proud to honor Brother Prathip Martin Komolmas, with the awarding of the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.
