ItemHow much is enough?: constraints of population, temperature rise, politics and economics: a concept paperHow Much Is Enough? Can be thought of generally in terms of sustainability. This paper broadly adopts that approach but also mentions The Sufficiency Economy (SE) Thailand which is derived from Buddhist philosophy and which promotes the idea that we should open our mind and implement practices to the needs (not wants) of all people and that those needs be modest i.e. sufficient. Proponents of this sufficiency economy were EF Schumacher (1911- 1977) of the UK and King Bhumibol Adulyadejj (Rama 9 (reign from 05-05-1950 to 13-10- 2016) in Thailand. This concept paper considers major factors influencing the Sufficiency Economy worldwide (not only for Thailand) namely: population (whether it involves growth, stability or decline); changes to global climate; preferred political system/s; preferred economic system/s; preferred standard-of-living; employment opportunity.

ItemKeep it simple: a relentless business strategy in a world of complexity the XYZ corporate story in briefThe objective of this study is to demonstrate how XYZ Corporation has perfected the art of achieving simplicity in its business strategy within a complex business world in order to achieve market dominance in their field of carbonated cola-based beverages. This study achieves that aim by reviewing a selection of company historical records available in the public domain and a critical study by Elmore (2015) which identifies, that contrary to popular belief, XYZ Corporation only makes one core product i.e. XYZ concentrate and even the components of that concentrate come from other sources. The corporation blends the components of the concentrate at a small number of regional concentrate sites and then distributes the concentrate globally; to bottlers who provide the water; the sweeteners, the gas (or fizz) ; the bottling/canning, warehousing; distribution and promotional components for the finished product. The company has a long history and research by outsiders is discouraged, so some citations and associated references are dated.

ItemOut with the old-perception and in with the new-five senses research in tourism and hospitality studiesThe word perception commonly appears in the titles of tourism academic journals, master’s theses and doctoral dissertations title when In fact, what is often measured is opinion, attitude, preference or impact. I suggest that this mis-representation should cease. Others may agree, because the term five senses research has begun to replace the word perception in the titles of some academic journal papers. This is especially so in the broader marketing context, but less so among tourism and hospitality titles. This outline study suggests application of five senses, which it is argued, should be considered, measured and applied where appropriate in place of perception.

ItemPerception in tourism & hospitality: a meta analysisPerception in the title of 45 studies in the hospitality and tourism literature over the past 36 years lead readers to believe that perception was to be measured. In fact, 33 studies measured attitude, belief, impact, opinion or preference. Another 12 developed perceptions from composite measures, none of which employed common components for perception. This research contributes to the tourism literature by identifying that perception was always used in the vernacular, not academic sense. Tourism and hospitality researchers are invited to be careful in their use of perception to maintain academic integrity.

ItemToo clever for our own good: a reflective review of twelve key issues in our western societiesMany people in our Developed Western World believe that we are entering or are already in, an era of great societal change, redolent of the Renaissance and the Reformation periods from a cultural perspective and of the Industrial Revolution in terms of commerce, manufacturing industry and service provision. This study reviews and critiques a broad literature of developments from twelve areas namely 1. Loss of spiritual Faith by many; 2. Increasing Economic Inequality across the social strata; 3.The Increasing Incidence of Mental Illness in Western Societies; 4. Increasing Narcotic Drug Addiction; 5. Increasing Blue Screen Addiction; 6. Failure to Act on Global Warming and Erratic Weather Events; 7. Corruption of Democratically Elected Politicians and the resulting Public Protests Against Their Actions; 8. Trying to Fix the Symptoms of these maladies rather than the Cause; 9.Increasing Civil Unrest Worldwide and Increasing Militarization of Police Forces Worldwide; 10. Endocrine Disruptors; 11. Profit Before People; 12. Corona Virus (Covid 19). A selection of texts by well-established and specialist academic authors testify to the historic concern on these issues. These are supplemented by recent/current on-line sources. Academic journals are limited to past issues because immediate issues such as Covid -19 and racial issues such as the murder of George Floyd by police officers have yet to be published. This research identifies the unintended social and medical consequences which have arisen, in twelve of the most troubling social and medical issues of today. This research invites reflection and thoughtful critical comment from readers.

ItemWhy PhD students at a private university Thailand delay completing their doctoral dissertation or drop outAs a faculty member at a private university in Thailand, it is noticeable that the majority of doctoral students substantially delay writing their dissertation or drop out. It is to be emphasized that the program under discussion is a part-time program for students who work full-time with completion of their doctoral program scheduled over 3 to 5 years (i.e. semesters 6 to 10). Discussions with colleagues and friends from other doctoral programs both in Thailand and abroad, reveal that it is common for such programs to have slow or a low completion rate .(Mournier and Tangchuang, 2010). A review of the literature confirms that low completion rates (30%) are also common locally and internationally. (Dunn, 204, Marshall and Green 2007, Phillips and Pugh, 2000, Atkinson and Parry, 1997). The purpose of this study is to identify (through a review of the literature and through anecdotal evidence) the nature of the problem; the impacts on the several parties involved and to propose an educational management solution to the problems of drop-out or delay completion of a PhD.
