English language education in Thailand and AEC 2015
    ( 2015) Rajeevnath Ramnath
This paper will shed light on how Thailand, which is a key player in ASEAN should reposition itself to the English language and education needs of AEC 2015. I will provide a brief overview ASEAN 2015 and examine the current status of English language teaching in Thailand before considering the role of English in education. I will introduce the concept of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and point out the differences between the time honored tradition of using English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) before calling for an overhaul of policies, methods, materials and testing which are essential for the nation’s success in ASEAN.

(Assumption University Press, 2009) Rajeevnath Ramnath ; Assumption University. Graduate School of English
This paper aims to show how advertisements in English newspapers and magazines portray the cultural values and identity of the people by exploiting certain linguistic features of English. The first section of the paper will give an overview of advertising and discuss the structure of adverts in the print media. The second section of the paper will analyse the linguistic features of advertising texts after reviewing some key studies on the language of advertisements. This section will also examine the visual elements of advertisements, which add appeal and represent the cultural values of the readers. The final section will highlight how the discourse of commercial advertisements construct identities by representing certain products, personalities, and groups of people while neglecting the other segments of the society.

The tale of a materials development project
(Assumption University Press, 2010) Rajeevnath Ramnath ; Assumption University. Graduate School of English
This paper is based on a materials development project with the Book of Mumimu (2007) written by Namptip Conlon. The project was a part of the Materials and Media Development in the Asian Context course in the Graduate School of English (GSE) at Assumption University, Bangkok, Thailand. The paper will discuss the links between the Materials Development and the Teaching Practice courses in the GSE before describing the project. The project aimed to provide a first hand experience to student-teachers in materials production instead of using published materials. The course participants were responsible for the learning outcomes of their activities. Students' journals will be used in the discussion to show their experience of the project and examples of activities designed in the project will be given in the appendix.
