ItemApplying an EOQ model to reduce an inventory cost(Assumption University Press, 2017) Russarin Jiraruttrakul ; Srobol Smutkupt ; Wasana Marksin ; Liang, Liu ; Chanasit Thanathawee ; Assumption University. Martin de Tours School of Management and EconomicsThis research study applies an EOQ model (Economic Order Quantity) to reduce an inventory cost. The focus ABC Company is a Beer Importer in Thailand. It faced the problem of high inventory cost and lackluster inventory management. The root cause was that the Company had no standardized ordering process, which meant a high cost of carrying excess inventory, or having too little to meet demand. It also meant paying a high storage charge. The EOQ Model was proposed, to make substantial improvements. Historical inventory stock data for years 2014 and 2015 shows that the ABC Company had low stock at the end of 2014, which meant the company was not able to fulfill customer demand. Conversely, it had excess stock at the end of 2015 which increased the carrying cost until the product moved from the warehouse (the internal supply chain) on to customers in the external supply chain. The researchers collected historical data from June 2015 to May 2016 (twelve months) to compute and simulate in the EOQ model, thus identifying the re-order point and safety stock, in order to find the optimal order quantity for inventory. This enabled the identification of appropriate inventory levels and buffer stock until arrival of the next shipment. The driving objective of this research was to gain cost savings through an efficient inventory management system. After simulation with the EOQ model, the result indicates that the ABC Company can accomplish cost savings amounting to 50% of the old annual inventory cost. Therefore, the ABC Company should implement the tested EOQ model and its re-order points, to achieve the ultimate aim of improving customer satisfaction, through buying the optimal order quantity, achieving appropriate inventory levels, and minimizing inventory cost.

ItemBattery transport optimization by a Vehicle Manufacturer in Thailand(Assumption University Press, 2016) Suphanida Leekijwiridhpol ; Srobol Smutkupt ; Vilasinee Srisarkun ; Chuthin ThanasarnaksornThis study is about battery transportation by a Vehicle Manufacturer that was found to have inefficient space utilization in the truck container. This problem negatively affected the company's profit and opportunity. Therefore, the use of GRASP (Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure) is proposed to minimize the problem substantially. In this research, a Vehicle Manufacturer focuses on its battery exports, which are transported by commercial vehicles. Data was collected by interviewing personnel, observing actual operations, and analyzing historical data. The result showed that a container truck utilized only 68% of its space. This impacted two areas: a high number of transportation trips, and high transportation cost. The conceptual framework of the research is to find the causes of the battery transportation problem as well as to implement GRASP methodology as a solution. GRASP methodology is a heuristics approach to allocating the right space. This methodology is widely applied in vessel container businesses, and can be useful in related fields such as truck containers. The objective of this research is to build a significant tool to enhance space utilization for loading batteries. The result indicates that the proposed solution can be accomplished and solve space utilization. According to this research, the company should implement a tower rack to stack batteries on pallets, and change the truck size from six wheels to ten wheels. These changes will provide cost saving, customer satisfaction, and collaboration, which increases the focus firm's competitiveness in the industry.

ItemBusiness process improvement of customer service for an eBay jewelry companyIncreasingly buyers shun retail shops in favor of online sellers. The focus firm in this research is a gemstone wholesale company which sells its jewelry on eBay. It had an inefficient operation process that was causing the company’s late delivery rate to exceed 4.00%, which was the new standard eBay requirement. The research objective of this project is to identify the root cause of this major problem, find solutions and implement improvement action. The Business Process Improvement model (BPI) was chosen to improve the internal process to align with the dispatch time agreement with eBay. Primary data was collected through interviews of relevant workers and secondary date from the investigation of company documents. Process Mapping, Fishbone Diagram, and Pareto Analysis were used to analyze and improve the process. The research identified two major causes of the late delivery rate, namely poor invoice management and insufficient shipment dates, so that the operation process lead time took over 7 days against the eBay requirement of only 2 days. The research methodology then developed a to-be business process for improving the delivery rate. This led to a significantly reduced rate, which although not achieving the eBay requirement would soon achieve this.

ItemCosting a freight forwarder's outsourcing decision(Assumption University Press, 2016) Kasaem Limkarnjanachote ; Srobol Smutkupt ; Wasana Marksin ; Sutta Sornmayura ; Liang, LiuAny international Freight Forwarder in Thailand faces tough competition. Airfreight is needed for some goods. The cost is high, but can be offset by low inventory cost. FF Company, the focus firm, provides airfreight services to manufacturers. To keep prices competitive, FF's total airfreight operation cost has to be contained. This research examined whether to outsource part of its airfreight operation or retain it in-house. The total cost of ownership (TCO) concept is used to evaluate this decision. Service quality had to be maintained, outsourced or not. Three TCO models, one for insourcing and two for outsourcing, compared costs per kilogram, service quality, and pros and cons. The finding were that the operation should be retained in-house, not outsourced.

ItemImproving quality and agent's performance in Bangkok call centresQuality in the call center industry is one of the major objectives difficult to achieve when considering call center agents, with their need to find a balance between the number of calls received, average handling time of calls, or post wrap-up time in each call. The focal firm, AURSA Company, realizes the importance of helping agents to develop and deliver the right kind of quality to customers on call. From data analysis, the researcher found that the company’s call center agents’ performance throughout 2017 was lower than expected. Therefore, this paper proposes a set of best practices for the company, gained from a review of the relevant literature. Under the proposed strategy, the best practices which were found to help agents to improve and deliver better quality service on call included weekly call assessment, coach model, and a knowledge management model. In addition, the researcher also suggests solutions to improve agent’s performance through ongoing support and communication, such as weekly one-on-one sessions, weekly team meetings, and training coaching sessions.
