ItemThe acceptance of cosmetic surgery : a study on Thai women in Bangkok(Assumption University, 2013) Wareerath Akkalatham ; Assumption University. Martin de Tours School of Management and EconomicsThe business of cosmetic surgery has now become a very lucrative and fast-paced industry as appearance-enhancing treatments and procedures have become increasingly popular around the world. A number of cosmetic surgery clinics and hospitals are now competing against one another to capture a share of the multi-billion dollar cosmetic surgery market. Thailand has been one of the most sought after countries for cosmetic surgery and ranks among the top 20 countries for cosmetic surgery procedures worldwide. The main aim of this study is to examine the relationship between intrapersonal and interpersonal factors which influence the acceptance of cosmetic surgery among Thai women. This research study examined the relationship between psychological characteristics, sociocultural influences, cosmetic sur- gery experiences, body appearances, body image, demographic variables and respondents' acceptance of cosmetic surgery. The 437 non-clinical respondents in this study are exclusively Thai women who have undergone cosmetic surgery in the past or who are likely to undergo cosmetic sometime soon. The data was gathered from 13 cosmetic surgery clinics and hospitals located in different parts of Bangkok. Narcissism, appearance orientation and body area satisfaction were significantly related to the acceptance of cosmetic surgery. Respondents with vicarious experiences were more favorable toward accepting cosmetic surgery. The findings showed statistical differences in the demographic variables of age, income, occupation, vicarious experiences with respondents' perception of body image and their acceptance of cosmetic surgery. Consumers who accept cosmetic surgery show a marked tendency for facial treatments (rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty) rather than surgery related to their bodies. This exploratory study will help develop new research paradigms in consumer research, interna- tional marketing, and managerial practices. Marketers can use this study's findings to better understand the nature of Thai female consumers and to segment and target those consumers who have favorable attitude toward enhancing their appearance.

ItemAgricultural commodity futures and stock market: evidence from RSS3 Futures in Thailand(Assumption University Press, 2017) Yaowaluk Techarongrojwong ; Pathathai Sinliamthong ; Rattana WaranyasathitThis study aims to examine the role of RSS3 Futures as the hedge for stock market in Thailand. The data is collected from May 28, 2004 until December 31, 2015, which includes totally 2,833 trading days. The results show that there is no relationship between RSS3 Futures and the stock market implying that RSS3 Futures can be the hedge for stock market in general. However, RSS3 Futures is not the candidate for safe haven of stock market because it shows no hedge property during the period of extremely negative stock returns. The result implies investors in Thailand, especially stock investors, should consider adding RSS3 Futures in their optimal portfolio because it clearly shows that RSS3 Futures can help in diversifying the risk, especially during the periods of stock market downturn.

ItemAntecedents and Consequences of Relationship Quality: A Study on Private Hospitals in Thailand(Assumption University, 2015) Suppasit Sornsri ; Assumption University. Martin de Tours School of Management and EconomicsThis study aims at developing a more comprehensive set of dimensions of relationship quality by employing the Investment Theory (Rusbult, 1980). It also focuses on determining the antecedents of relationship quality by applying the Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA) Theory (Williamson, 1985) as well as examining their relative significant relations. Finally, the paper examines the consequences of relationship quality by using the Exit-Voice Theory (Hirschman, 1970). The focal construct in this research is the relationship quality between hospitals and their outpatients. Previous studies have developed relationship quality dimensions mostly in the "want to" aspect and tested their models in various B2B and B2C contexts. However, in a number of long-term relationships, "ought to" and "have to" aspects of a relationship are also important in helping the longevity of the relationship in spite of dissatisfaction in the relationship. Unfortunately, very few empirical studies on relationship quality have captured such dimensions. Therefore, I set out in this paper to study these issues. The questionnaire survey data were gathered from 478 outpatients of a total of four private hospitals in Bangkok, Thailand. The results show that knowledge about patients has the most significant relationship to trust and patient switching risks have the most significant association with both inertia and dependence. The variation in trust explains the most among all the dimensions of relationship quality. Trust and inertia have positive effects on constructive feedbacks and revisit intention. Trust may also discourage switching intention while dependence positively affects revisit intention.

ItemApplication of backhaul strategy for powder beverage productsThe empty slot or space truck can create the underutilization of transportation for trip. This creates the low capacity of road usage, waste time and resources in transportation. In this researchfocused on vehicle route management intransferring the products from Khon Kaen to Bangkok. To reduce the transportation costwithhighroute utilization, the route of transportation needsto redesign to find the opportunity cost-savingwith effects price competitiveness of cost of goods sold.Backhaul strategy is one of the tools to increase route utilization. This strategysupported by using As-Is and To-Be to show before and after redesign route of transportation. The method has proven successful elsewhere for created high utilization in transportation and cost-saving.The expenditure report from February-July 2019(current route)and February-July 2020(new vehicle routing)are used to compare the result of redesign the routeby truck-sharing

ItemAn application of rank transformation : merger target predictions(Assumption University, 2006) Kaveepong Lertwachara ; Pattana Booncho, jt. auth. ; Assumption University. Martin de Tours School of Management and EconomicsThis study attempts to predict merger targets among banks, and also investigates the predictive power rank transformation adds to the prediction models. Rank transformation has been suggested as a robust and powerful tool for financial problems. Multiple· discriminant analysis (MDA) and logistic regression have been applied to selected ranked and unranked financial ratios. Then, the classification results of MDA and logistic regression on both ranked and unranked data sets are compared. The results have indicated that rank transformation does improve the predictive power of MDA and logistic regression.

ItemAn application of the savings method to a vehicle routing problemThis paper presents the authors’ research study of the vehicle routing practices of a transport company. This firm provides the delivery of Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) and electronics components to customers in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region and neighboring provinces in the Central and East regions of Thailand. Currently, traditional truck management is being practiced: this lacks a systematic approach by using only personal experience information. The inefficient truck management problem in this case study was identified as a Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP). Therefore, the ‘Savings Method’ designed by Clarke and Wright (1964) was applied to solve the CVRP, using Excel worksheets. The method consists of four procedures. Firstly, identify the distance matrix from the depot to all customers. Secondly, identify the savings matrix. Thirdly, assign customers to the vehicles or routes, in which the highest value is the criteria for selection. Lastly, sequence the customers within these routes. The research results show that the Savings method reduces the total number of vehicles usage and total distribution distances by 16.46% and 15.70% respectively, and increases truck utilization of truck capacity by 19.70%. These results create significant cost saving for the company.

ItemAn application of value stream mapping to improve purchase order process (Assumption University Press, 2018) Phasinee Chuensunk ; Piyawan Puttibarncharoensri ; Yenrudee TantisiriphaiboonThis research is about an electricity generating company whose long lead time in its procurement process for spare parts after breakdowns caused internal customer complaints. The focus firm, Allied Generating Company (AGCo), is in a sensitive industry, that of supplying electricity to provincial and national grids in Thailand. Therefore, the procurement problem is a threat to the nation’s economy as well as to the reputation of the AGCo firm. To solve this embarrassing problem, this research applied the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) Lean methodology to identify and remove ‘wastes’ so as to reduce lead time delays and improve the procurement process. It was found that the problem originated in the Procurement Department’spurchase order process. Historical data for a one-year period found that the actual lead time was 26% higher than the standard set time. Of the three bidding methods by which suppliers could tender their bids, the Written Bidding method had the highest number of purchase order delays, 54% of its 151 bids. The average actual processing time of this method was 50.5 days, compared with the set standard of 15 days. The major cause of delays was communication waste in confirming specifications and conditions, and seeking bids from too many suppliers. Work plans were redesigned to eliminate this waste and improve the purchase order process, thus achieving the standard time. Continuous performance monitoring was also begun, with KPI standards.

ItemApplying an EOQ model to reduce an inventory cost(Assumption University Press, 2017) Russarin Jiraruttrakul ; Srobol Smutkupt ; Wasana Marksin ; Liang, Liu ; Chanasit Thanathawee ; Assumption University. Martin de Tours School of Management and EconomicsThis research study applies an EOQ model (Economic Order Quantity) to reduce an inventory cost. The focus ABC Company is a Beer Importer in Thailand. It faced the problem of high inventory cost and lackluster inventory management. The root cause was that the Company had no standardized ordering process, which meant a high cost of carrying excess inventory, or having too little to meet demand. It also meant paying a high storage charge. The EOQ Model was proposed, to make substantial improvements. Historical inventory stock data for years 2014 and 2015 shows that the ABC Company had low stock at the end of 2014, which meant the company was not able to fulfill customer demand. Conversely, it had excess stock at the end of 2015 which increased the carrying cost until the product moved from the warehouse (the internal supply chain) on to customers in the external supply chain. The researchers collected historical data from June 2015 to May 2016 (twelve months) to compute and simulate in the EOQ model, thus identifying the re-order point and safety stock, in order to find the optimal order quantity for inventory. This enabled the identification of appropriate inventory levels and buffer stock until arrival of the next shipment. The driving objective of this research was to gain cost savings through an efficient inventory management system. After simulation with the EOQ model, the result indicates that the ABC Company can accomplish cost savings amounting to 50% of the old annual inventory cost. Therefore, the ABC Company should implement the tested EOQ model and its re-order points, to achieve the ultimate aim of improving customer satisfaction, through buying the optimal order quantity, achieving appropriate inventory levels, and minimizing inventory cost.

ItemAssociations among personal characteristics, work related factors, and virtual distance(Assumption University, 2016) Puckpimon Singhapong ; Winley, Graham Kenneth ; Assumption University. Martin de Tours School of Management and EconomicsThis study examined associations among work related factors, personal characteristics, and the virtual distance between employees and their work teams. Hypotheses related to these associations were derived from previous studies and tested using data collected from a sample of 238 employees from a multinational telecommunications company. The findings confirmed significant associations reported in previous studies: between age and job satisfaction; between work position, level of responsibility, and the extent to which work was challenging and interesting; and among the personal characteristics and the work related factors. In this organization virtual distance had significant associations with work position, gender, and age but contrary to previous findings it did not have a significant association with an employee’s level of education. Contrary to previous findings, virtual distance was significantly positively correlated with the extent to which work was challenging and interesting, and the extent to which work provided opportunities for new learning and career growth. These were the only work related factors that had significant correlations with virtual distance. The findings contribute to theory and practice related to the management and development of virtual work environments and show clearly that in this telecommunications company virtual distance was not having a negative impact in relation to important work related factors.
