ItemA Prototype Instrument for Measuring Service Quality by Generation X Parents: A Case Study at the International School of Macao( 2022) Howard Stribbell ; Somsit DuangekanongThis quantitative research aimed to advance the use of the service quality construct to measure the perceived service quality of K-12 international schools by Generation X parents. It proposed an approach that contextualised previously published scale items for private healthcare into educationally relevant scale items. The revised scale items were developed and confirmed through an Item Objective Congruence Test (IOC) by industry experts. The instrument was tested for reliability through a pilot test and then administered to 499 parents in a school. The results used Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to reduce the complexity of the standard 5 service quality (SERQUAL) factors into 3 factors: Responsibility, Assurance and Professionalism, Empathy and Facilities which accounted for 65% of the variance of the SERVQUAL variables amongst Generation X parents at The International School of Macao. The revised instrument can be used to effectively measure parents’ perception of service quality in an international school setting.

ItemThe academic rating criteria for knowledge web-based in Thailand( 2013) Kitikorn Dowpiset ; Chompu NuangjamnongWith rapidly growth of the Information Technology (IT), the original aim of the words ‘‘Ranking’’ was to promote Web publication, not only to rank institutions and organizations. By supporting public open access initiatives, electronic accesses to scientific publications and to other academic materials are primary targets. The result for these reasons, the number of web publication in Thailand has been increasing in each year. The main behavior of most people in cyber world, they prefer to search information before deciding to do something, especially in a part of people in academic areas and business professionals. Searching information and reading information from websites may create a strong and reliable research, academic reports, and making potential documents for business organizations. In order to have some confidences of the contexts in the websites that they can apply and analyze into the business reports, the reliable sources of information may be required a standard ranking. With fully reliable web contents, they can provide the real benefits in terms of money, and reputation for those contexts. However, trustee, reliability and confidence come from several conditions. In academic institutions, most students and instructors refer to specific contexts from the available websites that they can do the reports or create some class materials. Hence, the reliability of websites is very important which it may let others believe in the reports or academic papers. This may assist students and instructors to improve their studies and research. This research mainly studied, analyzed and mapped the rating criteria which related to the trust of information on available websites. The target data was gathered from the lecturers of both private and public universities in Thailand via a survey online. In order to precisely understand the weighting of criteria, the rating criteria scale and weighting for each of criteria, the focusing groups in discussion about web publication criteria, and other conditions and factors concerned will be investigated. Giving such opinions of the expertise of the Internet Service Provider (ISP), students, lecturers and the Government Agency may be included as recommendations and further study.

ItemAn Adaptive And Statistical Efficiency Myriad Filter For A Recursive Image Reconstruction Using a Multi-Frame SRR Algorithm With A Stochastic Regularization For Video Sequences( 2015) Vorapoj PatanavijitIn real applied implementations, a collection of classical linear filtering theories, for example, a Median filter and a Mean filter, can be only applied to the Gaussian noise environments due to the fact that these linear filters usually gives the poor performance under the presence of non-Gaussian noise environments. Because of the motion estimation blunder and observation process error, which are usually caused from real electronic noise, non-accurate optical devices or mathematical simplification models of observed process systems, the SRR (Super Resolution Reconstruction) algorithms using classical linear filters (a Median filter and a Mean filter) should possibly demote the quality of a reconstructed image rather than improve its quality. Under non-Gaussian environments, a class of flexible filters with high statistical efficiency, so called Myriad filter, has been proposed and its solid theoretical principle was analyzed for indicating that the Myriad filter is usually more powerful than a class of linear filters, especially for non-Gaussian environments. This paper proposes an adaptive and statistical efficiency myriad filter for a recursive image reconstruction for applied implementing on real video sequences, which are contaminated by both Gaussian and non-Gaussian noise environments. Thus, the Myriad filter, which is implemented for getting rid of noise in an expected image and for valuing the contrast between the back-propagated expecting of the reconstructed high resolution image and a group of low resolution images, is involved in this stochastic regularization SRR framework for the elimination proposing of Gaussian and non-Gaussian noise. Because of an ill-pose condition of the SRR algorithm, Tikhonov regularization methodology is mathematically required for getting rid of deformation from the reconstructed high resolution image and reforming the calculated time of its convergence. Under a lot of noisy corrupted environments (Noiseless, AWGN, Impulsive Noise, Poisson Noise and Speckle Noise at unequal noise power), the performance from the both PSNR and virtual quality prospect of the proposed SRR algorithm using Myriad filter, which is compared with SRR algorithms using classical linear filters (a Median filter and a Mean filter) are depicted and the proposed SRR algorithm gives the superior visually quality and, thus, superior PSNR than the SRR algorithms using classical linear filters.

ItemAdaptive Membership Functions for Handover Decision System in Wireless Mobile Network( 2016) Thanachai ThumthawatwornWireless mobile networks in the future are envisioned to demand more intelligent handover decision mechanisms to achieve seamless mobility and services. Fuzzy logic algorithms were proposed to enhance the handover decision process in recent years. However, most proposed algorithms deploy fixed fuzzy membership functions (FMFs). This approach gives an unsatisfactory network selection performance when different traffic types (service options) are required. In this work, we are proposing a new approach to handover decision system (HDS) design. The proposed design incorporates self-tuning of FMFs, which dynamically modifies the FMFs to match the requirements requested. The simulation results show improvements in network selection performance.

ItemAdaptive Two-stage Spectrum Sensing under Noise Uncertainty in Cognitive Radio NetworksTo utilize licensed spectrum bands efficiently, spectrum sensing needs to be accurate and fast. The occurrence of noise uncertainty and the lower in received PU signal power due to the distance between the transmitter and the receiver, path loss, are the main challenges that has a great impact on the accuracy of spectrum sensing. In this paper, we propose a new scheme of two-stage spectrum sensing, “Adaptive Two-stage Spectrum Sensing (ATSS)”, under noise uncertainty environment. ATSS is a modified of a conventional two-stage spectrum sensing where the decision threshold of both stages are adapted on the distance, estimated noise variance and calculated noise uncertainty interval. Therefore, ATSS improves the detection performance of the existing spectrum sensing and is robust to noise uncertainty. The contribution of this paper is three-fold. First, an unreliable detection and wasted stage activation of a conventional two-stage spectrum sensing are reduced. Second, noise uncertainty is addressed. Third, a new parameter, critical distance ( ), is proposed in order to reduce computational burden and sensing time of the first stage.

ItemThe Adoption and Use of ICT in Thailand and Vietnam( 2012) Winley, Graham Kenneth ; Lau, Sim KimThis exploratory study compares the adoption and use of ICT in the developing nations of Vietnam and Thailand by examining the nature and structure of the IT profession in medium to large size organizations. A theoretical framework is used with three related components: domains of IT professional expertise; the scope of the IT professional’s knowledge, skills, and experience; and specific knowledge and skills associated with the domains of professional expertise. The findings provide insights that are not found in existing reports which address ICT issues at a national rather than an organizational level. In particular, findings concerned with the first two components of the framework for both nations are compared to predictions about the adoption and use of ICT in organizations in technologically developed nations.

ItemAlternative Modes of Export Entry for SMEs from Emerging Economies( 2013) Amonrat ThoumrungrojeThe primary purpose of this study is to investigate the specific issue of modes of export entry of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that originate from emerging economies. Four theoretical frameworks on the process of internationalization (i.e. FDI, stage models, network perspective, and organizational capability perspective) are reviewed with respect to the internationalization of SMEs. Direct and indirect exporting are compared based on transaction cost analysis (TCA) and the network perspective. Problems arising from the use of extant independent export intermediaries are highlighted with a recommended remedy. After analyzing the situation and the nature of SMEs from the emerging economies, propositions on alternative modes of export entry for such firms are postulated.

ItemAn Analysis of Online Shopping in ThailandTrust is the most crucial factor for online shopping. Those organizations interested in enhancing their business channel with internet shopping need to understand the influence of consumers' trust, and how it depends on other independent variables. Additionally, they need to understand the cause of unreliability, how to eliminate it, and what functions have to be improved and maintained in order to attract consumers. This will allow organizations to understand the existing internet shopping environment and the consumers' decision to repurchase. This study investigates the factors influencing consumer trust in internet shopping in Thailand. Based on various previous empirical studies, a conceptual framework was developed to examine the relationship between six factors which influence trust in Internet shopping. The data was analyzed by using structural equation modeling (SEM) to test all hypotheses. The results of this study show that perceived integrity and perceived ease of use have a positive relationship with trust toward Internet shopping in Thailand. Recommendations are provided for Internet sellers to enable them to increase consumer trust.

ItemAn analysis of support goals: a perspective from support providers( 2009) Nuchada DumrongsiriPeople need support from family and friends to cope with everyday stresses and crises. However, people do not always perceive support as helpful or appropriate. Whether support is viewed as helpful or hurtful may depend on the approach and goals preferred differently by people from different cultures. Giving advice is problematic and difficult for advice providers in the Western cultures because they encounter conflicting goals (Goldsmith, 1992). One goal is to provide helpful advice, whereas another goal is not to threaten advice recipients' self-esteem and autonomy. However, advice may be less threatening in other cultures such as Asian cultures in which high involvement in group or others' lives is valued (Goldsmith & Fitch, 1997). This research project was aimed to answer three questions: (a) what are primary and secondary support goals among Thais?, (b) do Thais tend to use active or passive goals for initiating and providing support?, and (c) are support approach and goals comparable to past research in Western culture?

Item"Ante et Retro Occulata": Looking Back and Looking Forward( 2014) Foley, Joseph A.This article briefly looks at what changes might occur linguistically with the widening of English within ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) while at the same time looking at the changes that have taken place in both the language and attitude in the history of English in its country of origin in terms of two forms of imperative: the cooperative and the territorial. In one case, the cooperative imperative is seen as a need to continually modify the language in order to communicate with people within new contexts and cultures. On the other, the territorial imperative seeks to secure and protect a separate and social identity. What lessons can we learn from history and what consequences such lessons can have for teaching in terms of the differences between teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) and the growing awareness of the wider use of English as a lingua franca (ELF) will also be discussed.

ItemThe antecedents and consequences of conspicuous consumption of luxury fashion goods in a social media platform( 2018) Wanwisa Charoennan ; Huang, Kai-PingThe purpose of this study was to examine the influences of social media usage, key opinion leaders (KOLs), self-image congruency, and materialism on conspicuous consumption, as well as how conspicuous consumption had an impact on happiness with a purchase and satisfaction with luxury fashion products in a social media platform. The literature review suggested that conspicuous consumption was accelerated over a social media platform and by the role of KOLs because they promoted the favorable self-expression through a product consumption that exhibits an image that was congruent with an individual’s ideal self-image. The literature also implied that a materialistic consumer was likely to engage in conspicuous luxury consumption. Regarding its consequences, a happiness with a purchase and a satisfaction with a product were likely to be associated with conspicuous consumption. The literature in this study provided a more holistic comprehension of conspicuous consumption by incorporating both influential factors and potential consequences, and can be referred to in developing more efficient advertising and marketing activities.

ItemAntibacterial activity of Chrysanthemum indicum, Centella asiatica and Andrographis paniculata on Bacillus cereus and Listeria monocytogenes under Low pH StressClassic food preservation methods do not guarantee to inhibit Bacillus cereus and Listeria monocytogenes growth. The application of natural antibacterial agent is an alternative way to control their growth. Asia herbs, Chrysanthemum indicum, Centella asiatica, and Andrographis paniculata were used in this experiment to test their antibacterial activity under low pH stress. Their antibacterial activities of 95% ethanolic crude extracts were tested on B. cereus and L. monocytogenes 10403S under different low pH stress by agar disc diffusion method. The best antibacterial effect on both bacteria was found at low pH stress condition. Lowering pH also acts as one inhibitory effect. The result of in vitro antibacterial effect as inhibition zone at pH 7.0, 6.5, 6.0, 5.5, showed that the inhibition zone diameters of C. indicum extracts were 7.62±1.18. 7.87±2.35, 6.25±3.06 and 9.50±2.14 cm, while the inhibition zone diameters of C. asiatica extracts were 8.75±1.03, 8.75±2.66, 7.75±2.37 and 9.12±1.96 cm and A. paniculata extracts were 9.75±1.75, 5.87±3.52, 8.5±1.23 and 9.33±1.63 against L. monocytogenes 10403S, respectively. Under the same condition, the inhibition zone diameters of C. indicum extracts at 2.12±0.64, 1.37±0.92, 0.93±0.78 and 6.00±3.25 cm, the inhibition zone diameters of C. asiatica extracts at 0.62±0.44, 2.25±0.46, 1.75±0.28 and 6.50±1.60 cm and A. paniculata extracts at 0.87±0.79, 1.25±0.60, 2.00±1.65 and 6.00±1.31, respectively against B. cereus. All 95% ethanolic crude extracts showed more inhibition effect on L. monocytogenes 10403S than B.cereus. However, the promising active antibacterial compounds in all three herbs are needed to be identified. The MBCs of A. paniculata, C. asiatica and C. indicum showed 4, 16 and >32 µl/ml against B. cereus while A. paniculata and C. asiatica showed 16 and >32 µl/ml against L. monocytogenes 10403S.
