    Impact of occupational stress and coping styles on burnout among physicians in Yun nan, China

    This study was conducted to investigate the impact of occupational stress and coping styles on burnout among physicians in Yun Nan province, China. the sample consisted of 208 participants, consisting of 80 male and 128 female in-service physicians, recruited from different public hospitals. They voluntarily filled in a survey questionnaire consisting of the Occupational Stress Indicator-2 (OSI-2), the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), and the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS). The results revealed that the Chinese physicians' reported level of occupational stress directly influenced their reported level of burnout. It was also found that the more they applied emotion-focused coping, the higher was their reported level of burnout. Their reported level of occupational stress was not found to have any significant influence on their employment of either problem-focused or avoidance-focused coping style. All three coping styles were found to be associated with burnout. The more the participants employed problem-focused coping style as well as emotion-focused style, the higher was their reported level of burnout. On the other hand, the more they employed avoidance-focused coping style the lower was their reported level of burnout.

    The relationship between parental mediation and Facebook victimization and in-person victimization, both directly and indirectly being mediated by the intensity of Facebook use by middle school students in an International School in Bangkok, Thailand

    The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parental mediation and victimization that occurs from being bullied on Facebook, and victimization from bulling in-person, both directly and indirectly being mediated by the intensity of Facebook use. Also examined in the study was the overall difference in frequencies from victimization on Facebook and victimization which occurs from bullying in-person, amongst middle school students at an International school in Bangkok, Thailand. All students who participated in the study were below the authorized age for Facebook use; 13. A total of 93 students participated in the study by filling out a self-administered survey questionnaire designed to measure the primary variables of the study (styles of parental mediation: intensity of Facebook use, victimization that occurs from bullying on Facebook, and victimization that occurs from in-person bullying). results from the path analysis showed that certain forms of parental mediation directly influenced student's responses per intensity of Facebook use, victimization on the Facebook platform, and victimization that occurs in person. Also examined in the final analysis were the differences from overall victimization experiences on Facebook and those that occur in-person. The study found that students with parents that use parental mediation-guidance as a strategy for media use showed less frequency for intensity of Facebook use, victimization via Facebook bullying, and victimization from bullying in-person. Results also revealed that more students, overall, reported higher incidents of victimization from bullying on Facebook, than victimization that occurs from bullying face-to-face. The study's conclusions, implications, and avenues for future research are discussed.

    The relationship between the teachers' demographics and their conflict management styles at Anuban Damrongrachanusorn School, Sisaket, Thailand

    This study was conducted mainly to determine the correlation between the teachers' demographics and their conflict management styles at Anuban Damrongrachanusorn School, Sisaket, Thailand in the academic year 2015. The demographics and the conflict management styles of the teachers were both surveyed and investigated by a questionnaire developed by Patana (2003). The demographics questionnaire surveyed the education background, age, and years of work experience while the conflict management styles questionnaire which was based on Thomas and Kilmann's (2008) theory of conflict management investigated the conflict management styles of the teachers. Eighty-four full-time teachers at the school participated in the study. Various tools were used to calculate the data gathered for this study: descriptive statistics (Percentage and Mean) and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient. The findings indicated that majority of the teachers were bachelor's degree holders, 49 years old and below, and had at least 10 years of work experience. Moreover, the teachers' conflict management styles, ranked from the highest to the lowest, were often compromising, often accommodating, often collaborating, occasionally avoiding, and occasionally dominating. Furthermore, the teachers conflict management styles as classified by their education background were accommodating and compromising; by their age were compromising and accommodating; and by their years of work experience were collaborating, compromising, and accommodating. Finally, there was no significant relationship between the teachers' demographics and their conflict management styles at Anuban Damrongrachanusorn School, Sisaket, Thailand.

    The influence of materialism on well-being among Thai adolescents

    This investigation attempted to examine the influence of materialism on well-being, mediated by gratitude, anxiety, and depression among Thai adolescents. Operationally, well-being encompassed the factors of academic performance, social integration, and life satisfaction. Data were collected from 1,200 university students in the Bangkok area. A self-administered survey questionnaire in Thai was employed for data collection. The questionnaire consisted of the following: a researcher-constructed set of questions to elicit demographic information, the Material Values Scale (MVS) to measure materialism, the Gratitude Questionnaire-6 (GQ-6) to measure gratitude, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) to measure anxiety, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) to measure depression, the Engaged Living in Youth Scale (ELYS) to measure social integration, and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) to measure life satisfaction. The findings of Study 1 revealed that the Thai versions of the GQ-6 and the ELYS are psychometrically sound and, therefore, reliable and valid for use with Thai participants. Study 2 demonstrated the indirect negative influence of materialism on well-being, being mediated by gratitude, anxiety, and depression, nonsignificant correlation between materialism and gratitude, direct negative influence of materialism on well-being, and identified the full-direct model as the model that best explains the interrelationships among the core variables.

    The relationship between grades four to six students' perceptions towards Montessori teaching method and their achievement at Mahachai Christian Wittaya School, Thailand

    The primary purpose of this research study was to investigate students' perceptions towards Montessori teaching method and whether there is any relationship between students' perceptions towards Montessori teaching method and their academic achievement. The study was conducted upon grade 4,5 and 6 students at Mahachai Christian Wittaya School, Mahachai, Thailand in a Montessori setting. A questionnaire was used for data collection and 97 students completed the surveys that measured their perceptions towards Montessori teaching method. The data analysis showed that the students' perceptions were positive. A one-way ANOVA indicated that statistically no significant difference in the perceptions towards Montessori teaching method existed between the three groups. It was found that the students were most positive towards the construct of challenge and were not sure of their positions towards control and captivate, which had the lowest mean scores. Students' GPAs were found to be very good. A Pearson Correlation conducted to investigate the relationship between students' perceptions and their achievement found the existence of a strong positive relationship between students' perceptions and their achievement levels and supports previous research. It is recommended that Mahachai Christian Wittaya School could use current data to plan future changes and improvements and consider students' perceptions in future strategies. Future research should investigate the constructs of control and captivate to find out the effects of these variables upon student performance.
