Four AU law student delegates were highly privileged to participate in the ALSA Conference Thailand 2019 organized by ALSA Thailand Committee on January 24-29, 2019 at the Four Wings Hotel, Bangkok. Representing law students from Assumption University, the only private university in Thailand among few other notable public Thai universities sending its student delegates, the AU law students joined more than 200 international law students from top universities of Asian member countries in this world-class ALSA Conference Thailand 2019. Student participants, in this Asian Law Students Association Conference Thailand 2019 themed “Privacy Right”, were exposed to relevant knowledge on a variety of legal topics; taking part in a number of organized worthwhile programs: academic, professional, cultural activities, table discussions, career panel discussions, academic visits, cultural night party and tours, thus, enhancing not only learning experiences and strengthened friendship among international law students from all over Asia. Students also had the opportunity to learn from other Thai legal professionals who shared about their participation in the previous ALSA conference and their current working experiences. The following valuable topics were explored and discussed in depth during the table discussion sessions:
1) Comparative perspective of data protection: Impact of GDPR, challenges, and solution,
2) Privacy right and national policies: The conflicting values,
3) Data Commercialization: Implication of Surveillance economy and others,
4) Data protection in balance with other fundamental rights, and
5) Mass surveillance: Double-sided sword.
