ItemA study of employment opportunities for Myanmar graduates of Assumption University with special reference to Myanmar's labor market(Bangkok : Assumption University, 2019) Mon, MyatIn the past, the vast majority of Assumption University’s (AU) Myanmar graduates have tried to achieve better employment and higher socio-economic positions in other countries. English proficiency is a strength for AU graduates to obtain proper jobs, not only in Myanmar but also in other countries. Significant political reforms and economic developments in Myanmar have emerged since 2010. As a result, more employment opportunities have induced more AU graduates to work in their home country. On the other hand, these graduates have encountered many challenges in Myanmar’s working environment. Nevertheless, some graduates have achieved high positions with attractive remuneration in multinational or local enterprises while some returnees are running their own businesses successfully.
ItemDeveloping and testing relationship quality model: the context of undergraduate business programs in ThailandThe purpose of this study is to develop a concept of the dimensions of relationship quality for students and lecturers, using the Investment Theory. The determinants of relationship quality drawn from the Social Exchange Theory and their outcomes were investigated. Past studies examined relationship quality in various contexts, yet were limited in higher education. Relationship quality dimensions are evolving and mostly capture only “want to” and “ought to” stay in relationships, hence, this study added a “have to” aspect. This study adopted in-depth interviews and a self-administered questionnaire. The 459 useable data from undergraduate students of the international day-program in business of three purposively selected universities were analyzed. This empirical study has found that students’ trust, gratitude, and dependence represent comprehensive dimensions, as justified by the three aspects of relationship based on the Investment Theory, of relationship quality. Effective communication was the most significant predictor of trust. Functional quality was the most significant predictor of gratitude. Mentorship was the strongest predictor of relationship quality. These findings contribute that the Social Exchange Theory can be used to explain the reasons for strong student relationships. Accordingly, higher education institutions are recommended to sustain the effective communication, functional quality, and mentorship qualities of their lecturers.
ItemCommunication satisfaction, employee engagement, job satisfaction, and job performance in higher education institutionsThis quantitative study investigates the relationships and impacts of communication satisfaction, employee engagement, job satisfaction, and job performance in higher education institutions in Thailand. Survey data were collected from 400 faculty members and staff who work in public and private universities in Thailand. The results from simple and multiple regression analyses show that communication satisfaction has a positive impact on job satisfaction and employee engagement; job satisfaction has a positive impact on employee engagement and job performance; and employee engagement has a positive impact on job performance. However, there is no evidence supporting a significant relationship between communication satisfaction and job performance.
