Item The impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on consumer trust and purchase intention: a case study of condominium development in Bangkok area(2013) Kaniya Pornpratang; Lockard, David W.; Chittipa NgamkroeckjotiThe primary purpose is to investigate whether CSR has an impact on consumer trust and whether consumer trust has an impact on purchase intention. The above relationships were analyzed through Multiple Linear Regressions. The CSR variables are based on informal interviews with representatives of the three key players (developers, customers, and sales representatives) in the condominium development industry in Bangkok Thailand. As a result, CSR in the context of condominium development comprises of environmental sustainability, local community involvement, and green building design. Consumer trust is composed of disposition- based trust, cognition-based trust, and affect-based trust. The quantitative data was collected from 600 Thai potential buyers of a condominium for their own living and interested in purchasing an environmentally friendly condominium. The implication of this study is that condominium developers should be concerned with environmental issues and motivated to build green buildings. This study found that CSR has a strong positive relationship with consumer trust and consumer trust has a strong positive relationship to purchase intention. As a result of this study, developers should be encouraged to design green buildings that include traditional Thai natural ventilation and offer the green building concept to the condominium market. Thus, the green building design should be part of the planning process for construction. The green building projects will not only lead to energy savings for individual households but also lead to an increase of the consumer’s affective and cognition based trust of the developer. Thus, the condominium developer which focuses on green building designs may have a competitive advantage in the condominium market. This research should be of particular interest to developers who are concerned with flooding in Bangkok and want to accept responsibility for the environmental impact of their buildings. However, this study is limited to the Bangkok area only.Item Plagiarism among Thai Students: A Study of Attitudes and Subjective Norms(IEEE Explore, 2020-12-27) Nagi, Kuldeep ; John, Varughese K.For Thailand’s schools, colleges, and universities, academic misconduct continues to be one of the most significant challenges. Since the start of the COVID pandemic in March 2020 the use of the internet, digital platforms, and eLearning has dramatically increased. This sudden explosion in online learning presents huge challenges in curtailing the temptations for engaging in plagiarism. The internet provides ample opportunities for Thai students to access a wealth of information without visiting a school or university library. While easy access to the internet has led to a boom in searching for information, it has also made it much easier for students to plagiarize content they come across. Most Thai schools, colleges, and universities have created a policy to curb plagiarism to uphold academic integrity. Since Thai students are very weak in English language proficiency there is a tolerance for copying from the internet. This study is based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) underpinned as a predictive model of academic dishonesty which explains behavior as a final act of logical thinking. Attitudes are the pre-requisites in formulating convictions and normative beliefs which are referred to as subjective norms cultivated from the positive and negative attitudes about plagiarism that students get from society. This study also provides measures to combat plagiarism in Thai institutions.Item Developing an improvement plan for organizational leadership, management functions, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills for a government ministry(2020) Da Silva, Elisa Maria; Sirichai Preudhikulpradab; Fernando, Maria SocorroThis study examined the current conditions of the Civil Service Commission of Timor-Leste in terms of the organizational leadership, management functions, and interpersonal and intrapersonal skills and proposed an improvement plan to enhance the four variables. The rationale is based on the fact that the CEO and Human Resources Department did not see tangible results from previous HRD training programs whereby the emphasis tended to be placed on knowledge building while it was not evidenced as to what actions were taken by employees upon completion of these intensive training programs. Per such facts, the leadership team wanted to change the way that HRD training programs are delivered to enable employees to better cope with changing marketplace while crystallizing possible organization development projects as measures for effective training. This ongoing action research that comprises Phase I: Induction, Phase II: Interaction and Phase III: Integration. The first phase begins with self-discovery process that allows participants to recognize self strengths, then each individual person articulates his/her experience about the current organization situation; and lastly collectively translates common realities to possible organization development programs. The site of ongoing action research is taking place in Bangkok at the Headquarters of ABC Company. This action research has been carried out for the last 8 months and continues evolving. Total participant is 40. Fifteen out of 40 are CEO, COO, Executives and Director and 25 out of 40 are VP, Directors, Senior Managers, Managers and Supervisors. Sampling method is purposive sampling. This ongoing action research is based on a qualitative approach, employing the generative process to extract perspectives and ideas on how those might enhance organization productivity and effectiveness. Data gathering techniques comprise of focus-group interviews, workshops, discussions and reflection. As for data analysis techniques, they consist of categorization upon combination of all workshop outputs, summary of key points that emerge from undertaking workshops, discussion and reflection and pattern-matching based on predicted theoretical/conceptual explanations. Two research questions are to be answered-1). What is considered "strengths" of the company today? and 2). what internal OD and change initiatives can be designed and implemented to strengthen the organization vision, mission and core values? Per initial findings, it was found that 27 different organizational characteristics were collectively identified as current strengths of the organization, and 31 different ideas represent possibilities or futures which participants commonly agreed to pursue, for the sake of co-creating an organization alignment from vision, mission, core values, and actions to outcomes.Item From Bits and Bytes to Big Data - An Historical Overview(Computation Theory eJournal, 2020-07-27) Nagi, KuldeepAbout a century ago the computer revolution started in the USA. Computers and mobile devices have now become an integral part of our lives in the workplace. The first attempts to investigate the data output started in the 1960s on a command prompt blinking on the computer monitor. Later in the 1990s, powerful data mining tools were created to sort and analyze large amounts of data. Now the new technologies and tools such as Big Data Analytics allow us to instantly capture and analyze an enormous amount of personal and institutional data about clients, financial transactions, social networks, and everything else happening online. This paper attempts to provide a fresh insight into the evolution of “data” acquiring such a prominent role and value. It provides a pictorial history using secondary data sources and attempts to provide an overview of current tools, technologies, and trends associated with the evolution of Big Data Analytics.Item Essentials of Managing Research Quality in Thai Universities(Sociology of Education eJournal, 2020-03-30) Nagi, KuldeepIn Thailand, the increasingly burdensome regulations and oversight mechanisms imposed by state agencies have contributed to a compliance-oriented culture of research in most universities. Any deviation from the stipulated practices can result in swift action by state agencies, such as the Office of Higher Education Commission (OHEC) and Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA). This paper draws on relevant data from secondary sources, such as QS Rankings, Google Scholar Transparency Citation Index, IMD, and SCImago Journal and Country Rank from the Scopus database (Elsevier B.V) and also includes primary data from a survey conducted in May 2019. The survey results indicate that Thai universities must enhance incentives, such as grants, scholarships, assistantship, and improve advising skills of Thai faculty, attract foreign talent, and improve Ph.D. operations by providing rich online resources and focus intensely on efficient management of graduate programs.Item Exploratory and explanatory sequential mixed method towards repurchase intention of second-hand toys for collecting from Annpatinya Thammatiwat’s Facebook(2018-05) Pattanawadee Chokhengtrakoon; Chittipa NgamkroeckjotiThis study focuses on the relationship between customers experience, trust, and repurchase intention of Annpatinya Thammatiwat’ Facebook. A decade ago, it was perfectly acceptable to just record a Power Point presentation and upload it in the Learning Management System (LM). In 2016, this approach is not viable. It is no longer necessary to force the students to stare at sterile static text. One of biggest influence in eLearning comes from videos. Use of videos has become essential for teaching and learning in online programs and courses. Increasing use of services such as You- Tube has drastically changed the role of videos in teaching and learning. The TED series post their lectures on videos, and now have 500 million views. You-Tube receives about 60 hours of uploaded video content every minute. Proliferation of 3G/4G networks and exponential growth in the use of mobile devices is driving the use of videos not only for entertainment but also for teaching. This paper provides insight into the correct use of videos in eLearning. It provides a series of tricks to increase the video usage, such as, instead of presenting two 20 minutes videos on a subject, break the video into 4 separate videos, each 5 minutes in length. A five minute video can be internalized more easily than a long twenty minute video. Follow up questions in the form of a questionnaire, audio or video recorded responses by students will make it much more engaging. This paper is based on the study of a small sample of students in eLearning courses and attempts to provide new framework to create videos that will increase engagement in the eLearning courses.Item Text Neck Epidemic: a Growing Problem for Smart Phone Users in Thailand(2015-12) Poonsri Vate-U-LanThis research study examined the rapid changes in computer user behavior among Thai internet users, and analyzed differences in the computer health risk between desktop users and mobile device users. Researchers looking at this phenomenon called ‘film-induced tourism’ have identified a range of economic benefits, but other aspects possess potentially negative attributes. This study focuses on the Filipino film, “That Thing Called Tadhana” recorded in Sagada, Philippines. Few months after showing, there was a rapid increase in tourist arrivals in Sagada. However, drastic changes in its environment became more apparent. Since impacts of tourism are mostly patterned to three bottom line model, the researchers analyzed the economic, environmental, and socio-cultural impacts of film-induced tourism. Moreover, the perceptions of major stakeholders – tourists, local residents and local government – were taken into consideration to examine the impacts. This is a mixed-method research that involves quantitative and qualitative techniques. First, an administered survey questionnaire was utilized to compare the opinions of 200 tourists and 200 local residents. Then, in-depth interviews were conducted with five representatives of the local government in Sagada. Findings reveal that there are significant differences between tourists and local residents’ opinion towards film-induced tourism. On the other hand, the local government welcomes development of film- induced tourism as long as it does not harm local community, especially their culture and the ecology.Item Impact of the Exchange Rate Movement to Individual Stock Return Volatility: A Case Study of the Property Sector in Thailand(2016-06) Booranij Kijjanukij; Witsaroot Pariyaprasert; Panjamaporn SethjindaAs professional investors attempt to understand volatility of the stocks in portfolio risk management, exchange rate is considered as one of the most important economic indicators that can significantly impact on the portfolio risk exposure by several reasons. Therefore, this study investigates the effect of major exchange rate volatilities including THB/USD, THB/EUR, and THB/JPY on single stock return fluctuations with a case study of top 10 most value traded stocks in property sector listed in the Stock Exchange of Thailand. These were examined from the year 2012 to 2014 in daily basis. In order to fulfill each of examined regressions, ARMA model is applied as the mean equation to estimate conditional volatility by GARCH typed models. Interestingly, the regression result shows that 80% of stocks return volatilities have been significantly affected by THB/USD currency fluctuation with negative correlation. In contrast, 40% and 50% of the samples have been positively influenced by the volatilities of THB/EUR and THB/JPY exchange rates respectively excepting the relationship between the volatilities of THB/EUR exchange rate and RML stock return fluctuation which is found negative.Item Internal Factors Determining the Leverage of Non-financial Companies in Vietnam(2016-06) Duc, Le Quang; Witsaroot PariyaprasertVietnam is a developing country and currently providing huge opportunities for foreign investors who can understand the market. After joining World Trade Organization, Vietnam is following the commitment by gradually opening up the previous restricted industries and sectors. The Vietnam economy is expected to have a boom on new opening up business in 2016 due to the allowance of foreign ownership up to 100% (before was 49% maximum). The objective of this research is to study the internal factors that will affect leverage of the non-financial companies in Vietnam. According to previous studies, the selected variables used to test the relationship with leverage are dividend payout ratio, profitability, size, liquidity, return on equity, growth, working capital, market to book ratio and total tangible asset. The annual data of 116 non-financial companies with 580 observations was collected from 2010-2014. The relationship between leverage of Vietnam companies with mentioned internal factors will be tested by panel regression analysis with fixed effect model. The results showed that there are four factors that have significant relationship with leverage, including: return on equity (positive relationship at 1% significant level), company’s size (positive relationship at 1% significant level), working capital (negative relationship at 1% significant level), and profitability (negative relationship at 10% significant level). Other factors have no significant effect on the leverage of Vietnam companies. This study enables investors to have deeper understanding about capital structure of companies in Vietnam.Item The Impact of the Macroeconomic Factors and Their Unexpected Values on the Energy Sector Return Volatility: A Case study of Stock Exchange of Thailand during the Period of 2005 to 2015(2016-06) Sunchai Werawatthana; Witsaroot PariyaprasertThe purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of the macroeconomic factors and their unexpected values on the Energy sector return volatility in the Stock Exchange of Thailand during period 2005 to 2015. The method is separated in two cases. The first case is to study the impact of macroeconomic variables on the Energy sector return volatility which the macroeconomic factors consist of; agriculture producer price index, consumer price index, current account, employment, exchange rate, industrial production index, interest rate, money supply (M2), oil price, producer price index, rubber producer price index, and trade balance. The second case is to study the impact of unexpected macroeconomic values on the Energy sector return volatility which the unexpected macroeconomic are derived from the residual of the regression model and the volatility of Energy sector return is calculated by using Exponential General Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedastic (E-GARCH) model. From the empirical results show the unexpected employment has the positive relationship with the Energy sector return volatility. The unexpected interest rate and the unexpected trade balance have the negative relationship with the Energy sector return volatility.
